Lions lose in 2024! By Hoppy

Robin Griffiths

We won in the bar!

Always a competitive fixture.

And after 6 wins on the trot, what are the chances of that?

With a quiet moment before the whistle, with respect to Conrad, the game was on!

The Lions were up against it but certainly troubled the Teddington defence on a few occasions, particularly in the first half. With missing the goal finishers this week, The Lions failed to capitalise on the chances created.

Oh Dear! Teddington had a Mr Angry Man, running a commentary on every decision, tripping me up and accusing us of cheating, elbow in the back and the list goes on. I am not usually one to quarrel but after he declared his intention to go off at half-time, I called his bluff (politely) and he was not seen again on the pitch. Is that a way to spend a Saturday afternoon? At our age? To be fair it was a very good game until then and improved in good competitive temper thereafter.

The back line deserves Men of the Match this week, soaking up a lot of pressure from a very good Teddington team.

A half time chat saw young Drake stand up and suggest we recirculate the ball around the back to the wings. Club Captain in the making! Some cracking saves too!

And with not a great deal to report on the pitch, to the bar.

Teddington were, as always, great hosts, lovely teas and a vibrant clubhouse. Apparently running out about 16 teams. Great!

We shared a few good chats at the bar with them for an hour or so and they were the better side today. Another favourite fixture.

Before the game, Robbie for some questionable reason, managed to drop a pair of his wife’s leopard print knickers out of his kit bag, in front of a bunch of young mothers supporting the previous game. Despite claiming it was his handkerchief, he was rumbled! Oh well, it was Valentine’s Day this week.

Cashless bar required Robbie’s credit card. I am now in Rio with new golf clubs. Lots of leopard print knickers out here too. I will return the Amex card when I am back from Dubai next week.

Thanks to Teddington and as ever to our umpires.

Last thoughts - Conrad - An exceptional player, clubman and friend to all. We are soS lucky to have known him. Our thoughts to his family and his closest friends.
