Ladies 1s claim victory and Lee Valley

On Monday, 5th May, the Ladies 1s travelled to Lee Valley for the highly anticipated final of the England Hockey Club Championships, facing off against Manx (Isle of Man) in a thrilling and hard-fought match.

Manx took an early lead with a goal from a short corner, and despite growing pressure from Sunbury, the score remained 1-0 at halftime. Early in the second half, Manx doubled their lead with a swift counterattack. Undeterred, the Hawks rallied, and Imogen Thomas struck with 14 minutes to go, narrowing the gap to 2-1. Soon after, Beth Wilson converted a short corner to level the score at 2-2, setting up a nail-biting finish.

With full-time ending in a draw, the match went to shuffles. Georgia Robertson calmly opened the shootout with a goal, but Manx quickly equalised. As the pressure mounted, Olivia Morgan scored from a penalty flick won by Hazel Thorneycroft, and later kept Hawks in the game by converting the final shuffle to draw level once more.

In sudden death, goalkeeper Emma Brierley made some sensational saves, setting the stage for Hazel Thorneycroft to seal the victory. With ice-cool composure, she found the net, crowning the Hawks as champions.

A fantastic day for the team—huge thanks to everyone who came out to support!
