Red Lions

A trickier one to report on this week. Following last week’s late afternoon fixture, requiring a lift home in the Ark, The Lions were treated to an early morning 10 am game in pea-souper fog.

With thanks as ever to the Umpires, John Nutt was dressed in North Sea fisherman fluorescent yellow, allowing some definition to the side of the pitch over yonder.

British Airways taxied out a strong side, which troubled but was largely contained by The Lions Back’s air traffic control, diverting attacks to other airports.

Wade was undoubtedly, Man of the Match, with some spectacular saves, time after time with hand, body and one stick smash, worthy of winning Wimbledon at one stage.

Alas, a more youthful onslaught saw two exceptionally scored goals leaving BA 2-0 up at half time.

The Lions did create some moves up the runway, with Jitz able to receive and distribute back but with wide open spaces to fill, The Lions struggled to break through customs.

With the fog lifted at half time, BA took off straight away and scored within the first minute, whilst The Lions were still browsing in Duty-Free.

Late arrivals at the gates meant the deficit was then 4-0 down.

Despite the bumpy flight, The Lions managed to circle some attacks, leading to several short corners.

A poor push out from your correspondent, necessitated a return pass back from Jitz, giving an angle for The Lions getting one in the BA hanger. Final result 1 - 4 loss.

Funny moments? Well, Jitz tried to knock himself out and Walders complimented me afterwards for having a perfectly “adequate” game…

Wade’s game today was truly a special one to witness, with him time and time again spotting a ball coming at him at Mach 2 and pulling off spectacular saves. This is particularly interesting, as he later related in the bar that he had recently failed to spot the back of a stationary bus whilst cycling to the pub a couple of weeks ago and had knocked himself senseless crashing into the back of it.

If he starts to lose form, we need to get him back on his bike.

After match refreshments were held back in the departure lounge bar, standing room only, until the bar stools finally arrived, just as we had to go the to the gates.

What adventures await next week?

Hoppy.
