Men’s 5th XI
Men’s 5th XI
5XI play in The Surrey Open League – Division 5
Captain – Nathan Denham
Vice Capt - Robbie Banks
18th Feb v Epsom 6s L 0-5
Letting the side down and preventing Conrad from not only having to buy a hatrick jug but the whole of the Men’s section was Big Nath and his depleted team of youth. Following on from the 3’s away to Epsom the 5’s did well to hold off for as long as they could but a quality midfield for Epsom made it a tough ask and once they bagged one another 4 quickly followed. A day at the office they would rather forget but a brilliant season so far that will hopefully return to winning ways when they host Croydon this week at The Nest.
11th Feb v Leatherhead 3s (home) W 7-2
In the 2.30pm home game the Men’s 5th XI faced Leatherhead and ran out 7-2 winners, goals coming courtesy of Andrew McNab, Alex Styles, Connie & 4 from Geoff Ingram shooting him up the Top Scorers league table. The 3 points see the 5’s comfortable in mid table in Surrey Open Div 5 and surely the highlight of the day was Michael Smith accused of being a ringer despite having only played hockey for 5 months – well done fella! Haha
04th Feb v Old Reigatian 3s ( away) D 2-2
The Men’s 5’s travelled to Reigate having been informed their game was on and managed to improve on the 1-0 defeat they encountered in the first half of the season with a well fought 1-1 draw. Geoff Ingram added to his tally making him joint top scorer for the 5’s so expect some selfishness in front of goal at The Nest this week.
28th Jan v Aldershot & Farnham Men’s 4s (home) L 1-7
The Men’s 5’s were also facing a Top team in Aldershot & Farnham, the only unbeaten team in Surrey and the Top Scorers in any division on 71 goals. The latter of these results got even bigger as in the absence of Captain Nath & Vice Captain Trevor (they were in Horley helping the 4’s) the 5’s were flattened 7-1 at the Bishopwand pitch. Ollie Mason got the only goal in a match that would rather be forgotten as they look to bounce back against Old Reigatians this week.
21st Jan v Croydon and Old Whitgiftian Men’s 4s (away) D 2-2
I think the 5’s were grateful to get a full game after the fiasco of losing light the week before (the Leagues judgement was to have that match replayed) and so faced Croydon away at 3pm. A decent strength side considering their league position and despite having 2 teams in this league you can’t question their selection as the other team held Surbiton to a 1-1 draw, this game finished 2-2 with Dan Mason & Michael Smith bagging a goal each as The Hawks prepare for the only unbeaten side and the highest scorers in Surrey: Aldershot & Farnham 4’s!
07th Jan v Addiscombe 4′s W 4-2
Our 6th place 5th XI were hosting 4th place Addiscombe and with Nathan’s army of youth ever growing they managed to switch league positions with their opposition after beating them 4-2. Goals from Ed Sorrell (really??), Dan & Ollie Mason and the team’s top scorer Geoff Ingram means only Top Place Aldershot & Farnham (who have won every game so far) have scored more goals in Surrey Open Div 5.
