Ladies 4th XI

4XI play in Surrey Women’s Open League Division 10

Captain – Nicky McAndrew

04th Feb – Cancelled due to weather

28th Jan v Wimbledon 4s (home) W 2-1

The Ladies 4’s who with a 13 team league where they only play each team once were a little unsure how they would cope against some of the higher ranked teams they’re due to face. The Hawks were sitting proud at the Top of Surrey Div 10 before their game on Saturday against 2nd place and unbeaten Wimbledon. They were 5 points below The Hawks but with 2 games in hand a win for either team was vital. With good availability throughout the ladies section it meant that we had a full strength side and started strongly despite Wimbledon managing to score first.  A determined Hawks side fought back and soon Suki equalised from a superb cross into the ‘D’ from Phil.  Both teams continued to have chances to go ahead but both defences kept the ball out of the net, in particular The Hawks’ defensive shorts with Kathryn Lovegrove taking the ball from the Wimbledon striker every time. The patience and persistence paid off, 8 minutes from time Ailsa put the girls ahead for the first time in the match. Wimbledon showed their frustration and turned up a gear but they held on for a 2-1 victory. This means that if they win their last two games they will win the league and be promoted, but it is tight at the top. They are currently 6 points clear from second place Wayfarers and 8 points clear of third place Oxted who they are due to play on 11th Feb at home and would love the support. It will all come down to availability – come on Girls!

21s Jan v Croydon and Old Whitgiftian Ladies 3s (away) W 2-3

The Ladies 4’s are currently sitting proud of Surrey Div 10 but only playing each team once means they are unsure of what they are about to face in this half of the season. They started in fine form by beating mid-table Croydon 3-2 away from home, all 3 goals coming from the injury recovering Suki. This week they face their closest rivals Wimbledon in the 2.30pm pushback at The Nest.
